Taking Lucy and Spike to Dog Beach in Ocean Beach

If you have dogs in San Diego, you MUST take them to Dog Beach in Ocean Beach.  Situated at the furthest end of I-8 west, you take a right at the stop light at West Point Loma  Blvd and you will end up at the beach.  Get ready for doggy fun.  This beach is like Disney Land for your furry friends!

Your dogs are allowed to run free on this beach.
 

They have a sense of fun and wonder at all the sites and sounds

 

They take in the view and running in the surf is the BEST!


They make new friends  and do not forget to sniff!

They enjoy the water.  There is open beach at Dog Beach for the surfer in your dog.... but as you keep walking, especially during low tide, you follow the San Diego River which dumps into the Pacific at this point.  The water is brackish but your dogs will no doubt try to drink it anyway.  (always a good idea to bring along some fresh water since the salt water can cause an upset tummy--no fear if you forget though, the people of Ocean Beach have installed a water fountain at the entrance of the beach)
 

If you are traveling to San Diego and want to bring your best friend, who is furry, rest assured that Ocean Beach offers a place for you to stay with your dogs.
 

But the fun has to come at a price....since they have brought most of the beach sand home in their coats, it is always a good idea to shower or bathe your dogs after a trip to the beach.  A good shower can also remove any pollutants you do not want in the coat of your dogs.  Just do not expect them to like it much!   (sorry Spike!)
