Food advice for your dog

By Shelly Dunn

If I had not been there, Spike more than likely would have tried to eat the tomato.  Dogs are like that, they will put almost anything in their mouths and more than likely, they will eat it once it is in the mouth.

Here is a list of things you should avoid feeding to your dog:

We all know that chocolate is very bad for your dog and could even lead to death.  Keep all chocolate away from anyplace that a curious canine can find and ingest.

Avocado is not good for your dog.  There is an element in the entire avocado tree, fruit, pit, even the leaves, called persin. It is toxic to your dog.  Do not let your dog eat the avocado.

Keep your dog away from macadamia nuts.  Toxic to dogs.  It may be in baked goods without you being aware, so it's best to keep such items away from your pups.

Raisins and/or grapes are very bad for Fido!  There is something in the skin that can cause kidney failure.  Avoid at all costs!

Finally,
Onions and garlic are very bad for your dog.  There are several elements that can either cause death quickly, or damage the blood cells over time.

Keep your animals healthy by loving them enough to give them food designed for their systems.  Your vet can be your best friend to Man's Best Friend.  Ask for advice on what is safe to give your beloved, four legged companion.

Happy Summer!

Our Pet of the Week is one stunning black kitten - Patrick is a true charmer! Black cats have a particularly tough time being adopted due to superstition. This guy is such a charmer that even I'm having some witchcraft suspicions, but I'm sure it's just his warm personality that draws the crowds.More >>
