A woman who once dreamed of being a nun was selected as the new Miss World in London over the weekend. Miss Venezuela, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, beat contestants from 113 countries around the world. More than one billion people viewed the televised event. Runner up prizes went to Miss Philippines and Miss Puerto Rico.

The new Miss World is 21 years old, speaks Spanish, has 12 siblings, but was orphaned as a young girl. She spent five years in a nunnery, but went into broadcasting before becoming a beauty queen.
Throughout its 60 year history, the beauty competition has attracted critics as well as fans. This year, protesters included London Feminist Network, Object and UK Feminista. They voiced their opposition to the "sexist content."
