The DSC 9/11 revisited

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - If you listen to Dave, Shelly and Chainsaw in the morning on Jack FM, you probably know they were on the air live when the 9/11 attacks happened. This Sunday, the DSC is going to re-air that program along with new commentary and reflections on what happened 10 years ago.

"I had truly pressed the button to start our music for the morning and my producer came running in and said, second plane, second building, and that's when everyone knew," Dave Rickards said. "And it occurred to me, you hear these things throughout your life; you hear President Reagan has been shot, you hear President Kennedy has been shot, you hear the Challenger exploded after take off. And, it didn't dawn on me until 10 years later, I was that guy. And I wish I could have been cooler about it, but…"

"I don't know how I looked when I came back but Dave said, 'Tell me what you saw', and he walked back and looked and I remember Dave saying, 'We're at war'," Shelly Dunn said.

"No one really thought that structure would actually collapse like it was a planned demolition. And I don't think the terrorists knew that either," Cookie "Chainsaw" Randolph said.

"Very early on in the show Shelly you commented, 'How is it possible to bring down a plane with all the security measures in this day and age?' And back then, I think you could skip onto a plane," Rickards said.

"And it was seven or eight days later that Giuliani, who emerged as a hero, hosted a baseball game at Shea Stadium and Liza Minnelli sings beautifully," Randolph said.

"Wasn't it 'Never Forget', wasn't that the slogan? It's a good thing," Randolph said.

The DSC has put together a two-hour radio show with audio from the 9/11 program that aired live back in 2001. It's called "9/11 Revisited", hosted by the DSC, and it will air this Sunday, September 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on 100.7 Jack FM. You won't want to miss it.
