If you have HDTV, try to catch the concert on Palladia featuring the British trio Muse.
These guys are awesome! I can't quite figure out why, though. With his plaid shirt, their drummer looks like a member of the Bay City Rollers and he's a pretty basic player. The bass player appears to be about 7 feet tall. He's a monster musician, the glue that holds it all together. And the singer/guitarist/pianist is your typical Brit geek, kind of ugly but obviously a musical wizard, as he throws all kinds of twists and turns and tasty effects into his playing. I don't know much about Muse at all, (like their names!) but something's happening there. Song titles like "Supermassive Black Hole" and "Knights of Cydonia" would lead one to think they're a space music group. Nope! Their sound draws from classic rock influences like Queen and Rush, as well as from traditional European classical music. I'll just say the whole is greater than the sum of the parts!
As Peter Gabriel once said, "Talking about music is like dancing about architecture." So try to catch the Muse concert video "Seaside Rendezvous," on the Palladia channel.
Or, better yet, see them in person tomorrow night (9/22/10) at Viejas Arena!
