The Padres just won the last game of a four game series with the Milwaukee Brewers. They also won the first two. Each of the three victories was a shutout! The Padres outscored Milwaukee 21-2 for the series. When the Brew-crew came to town they were the best-hitting club in the National League. San Diego's pitching staff totally shut off the Milwaukee offense! It was awesome!
We're far enough into the season to see that this year's iteration of the San Diego Padres is a team to be taken seriously, and could very well take the NL Western Division despite the second-smallest payroll in the majors. Which just goes to show you, the Yankees notwithstanding, that money won't necessarily buy a great team. The Padres are mostly young and eager to win, using all the tools at their disposal...outstanding pitching, good defense, timely hitting and speed on the basepaths.
Yeah, I know there are still 137 more games to play, but from what I've seen, these guys are going to be very exciting this season.
If I'm wrong, I never wrote this.
