My wife and I just got home from the Green Day concert at Viejas Arena. Despite sitting on a concrete bench for more than two hours, it was one of the best damn SHOWS I have ever seen (and believe me, I've seen thousands of 'em!)
Green Day started at an over-the-top energy level and got even more intense as the show went along. All the hits were there (including an incredible Know Your Enemy, which saw Billy Joe climbing into the bleachers, guitar in hand, to get a tongue bath from several frisky female fans,) the pyro was spectacular and the band was INCREDIBLY tight.
Several times during the show Armstrong brought audience members onstage to participate in theatrical pieces, crowd surf or sing along, including what appeared to be a two or three year old toddler and a hammy five year old boy who tried to steal the show. In fact, there were a lot of children at this concert, which must have been disconcerting for their parents, as Billy Joe's favorite word begins with fu@k!
There were just as many older adults there, too, showing just how popular Green Day are.
When I go to a concert that makes the hair on my arms stand up, I know I'm witnessing history.
That happened at least a half dozen times tonight. I had the time of my life...
